Solar Bears acquire Justin Buzzeo from Gladiators

All-Star forward had been leading Atlanta in scoring

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the club has acquired forward Justin Buzzeo from the Atlanta Gladiators in exchange for rookie forward Alex Gacek and a future consideration.

Buzzeo, 27, is in the midst of a career year, as he had been leading the Gladiators in scoring with 56 points (17g-39a) and 25 penalty minutes in 55 games this season. He was also named the CCM ECHL Player of the Month for November, after recording 21 points (7g-14a) in 14 games.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward has skated his entire pro career for the Gladiators, accumulating 87 points (29g-58a) in 125 games.

Prior to turning pro, the native of Windsor, Ontario played college hockey at Ferris State University from 2011-15. In 122 career games for the Bulldogs, Buzzeo tallied 68 points (29g-39a) and 77 penalty minutes.

Gacek, 23, had posted 29 points (14g-15a) and eight penalty minutes in 26 games for Orlando after he was acquired from the South Carolina Stingrays on Dec. 29. He has 41 points (22g-19a) and 12 penalty minutes in 45 games this season.

The Orlando Solar Bears continue their fifth season of ECHL hockey when they host the Utah Grizzlies at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center on Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m.
