NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced the club has signed rookie defenseman Jeff King to a Standard Player Contract.
King, 21, begins his professional career after spending four seasons with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League. The 5-foot-11, 171-pound blueliner enjoyed a breakout campaign for Sarnia this season, leading all Sting defensemen in scoring with 56 points (14g-42a) and 76 penalty minutes in 66 games, all career-highs.
The St. Clair, Mich. native accumulated 131 points (26g-105a) and 174 penalty minutes in 250 career games with Sarnia, tied for the second-most games in Sting franchise history.
This move follows the release of rookie forward Michael Turner on Thursday and the placement of rookie defenseman Ben Danford on injured reserve retroactive to Wednesday. Turner, 21, racked up seven penalty minutes in four games with Orlando.
