Marchment leads Solar Bears past Stingrays in 4-3 win

Marchment scores twice for Orlando

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Mason Marchment scored two goals and Joe Perry enjoyed a three-point night as the Orlando Solar Bears (35-24-6-3) topped the South Carolina Stingrays (36-28-3-1) by a 4-3 score on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Solar Bears gained a 1-0 lead in the first period during a 4-on-4 sequence when Marchment received a pass from along the boards by Tony Cameranesi and snapped a shot from the right circle past the glove of Parker Milner at 5:45 into the top right corner of the net.

The momentum of Marchment’s goal was tempered when an injury to Daniel Maggio along the boards midway through the frame forced a stoppage in the contest until Maggio was safely removed from the rink.

Eric Faille then made it 2-0 when he brought the puck around the net of Milner and backhanded a shot through the crease and over the goal line at the right post at 17:57.

Kevin Dufour netted a late goal to get the Stingrays on the board when he sped down the left circle and got a shot off that was initially stopped by Ryan Massa, but the puck glanced behind the goaltender and in the middle of a scramble Dufour recovered the puck at the goal line and slid it inside the left post at 19:38.

Faille set up Perry for his team-leading 34th goal of the season at 3:23 of the third period when he made his way down the left side and backhanded a feed across the slot to Perry who elevated the puck past a sprawling Milner.

Joe Devin netted a power-play goal for South Carolina at 10:05 when he one-timed a feed from Olivier Archambault past the blocker of Massa, and Andrew Cherniwchan evened the score at 3-3 at 5:59 of the third period with a shorthanded marker when he received the puck at the defensive blueline and sped down the ice before backhanding a shot past Massa.

Marchment netted the game-winning tally at 12:43 when he received a pass along the boards from Chris Crane and snapped the shot over the glove of Milner.

Massa picked up the win with 29 saves on 32 shots against; Milner took the loss with 28 stops on 32 shots against.
