Solar Bears sweep Beast with 7-2 win

Bubela has two goals, assist for Orlando

BRAMPTON, Ontario – The Orlando Solar Bears (34-23-6-3) completed a 6-0-0-0 regular season series sweep of the Brampton Beast (36-22-3-5) with a 7-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Powerade Centre. The win allowed Orlando to jump back into third place in the ECHL’s South Division, as the Solar Bears now possess 77 points.

After Willie Corrin was whistled for a high-sticking double-minor on Eric Faille at 7:46, Brampton’s David Pacan forced a turnover that led to Brandon Marino skating in and beating Ryan Massa inside the left post for a shorthanded goal at 8:55.

A little over a minute later, Orlando found the equalizer on the power play as Milos Bubela’s rebound deflected off the pads of Zachary Fucale back to the left circle, allowing Tony Cameranesi to bury his second goal in as many games against the Beast.

The Solar Bears pulled ahead moments later when Brenden Miller stretched a pass up the left side to Darik Angeli in the neutral zone, allowing Angeli to move in with Taylor Doherty and fire a shot that beat Fucale at 12:27.

Midway through the second period, Bubela netted his sixth of the season when he received a wing-to-wing pass from Mason Marchment to beat Fucale at 8:46.

An aggressive forechecking effort from Denver Manderson led to Bubela’s second goal of the day as Manderson collected the puck along the end boards and fed the puck back into the slot for Bubela to slam into the net at 17:78.

Jon Jutzi’s feed into the slot from the left circle glance off of Chris Crane’s stick past Fucale at 18:30 to cap the scoring in the second frame.

The Beast opted to replace Fucale with Andrew D’Agostini to begin the third period, but the change between the pipes did not deter Orlando’s attackers, as Joe Perry banged in an Eric Faille rebound 2:13 into the period for his team-leading 33rd goal of the season.

David Vallorani responded for Brampton with a one-timer from the left circle as he snapped a shot into the top-right corner of the net at 3:54.

Miller capped the scoring for the day when he broke out of the penalty box and received a long pass from Cameranesi to give the defenseman a clean breakaway to the Beast net, allowing Miller to skate in and bury a low shot at 6:10.

Massa earned the victory with 42 saves on 44 shots against; Fucale took the loss with 19 stops on 24 shots against in 40 minutes of action for the Beast, while D’Agostini made eight of 10 saves in relief.
