GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced the club has signed rookie goaltender Mitch Gillam to an Amateur Try-Out agreement.
Gillam, 24, joins Orlando after completing his collegiate career with Cornell University, where he went 21-8-5 with a 2.25 goals-against average, .917 save percentage and three shutouts in 34 games this season.
Over the course of four seasons with Cornell, Gillam compiled a 47-28-17 record, along with a 2.15 goals-against average and .918 save percentage in 97 appearances. His 11 shutouts are the fourth-most by a goaltender in the program’s history.
The native of Peterborough, Ontario notably scored a goal for the Big Red in his first-ever collegiate start on Nov. 26, 2013 in a 4-2 win over Niagra University, becoming only the eighth goalie in NCAA Division I history to be credited with a goal, and just the third to shoot the puck into the net.
This move follows the release of goaltender Charlie Millen on Monday. Millen, 24, did not see game action while with the club.
The Orlando Solar Bears continue their fifth season of ECHL hockey when they take on the Adirondack Thunder at 7 p.m. at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
