TODAY:The Orlando Solar Bears battle the Utah Grizzlies in the second of two meetings this season. Orlando also concludes a 10-game homestand today that began on Feb. 16 with a 4-2 victory over Norfolk. Orlando is 6-2-0-1 (.722) through its previous nine games. Orlando will then begin a nine-game stretch on the road before returning to the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center for the final two home games of the regular season in early April. The Solar Bears (3rd in the South Division with 69 points) now have three games in hand on both second-place Greenville (75 points) and fourth-place Cincinnati (68 points), both of whom suffered regulation losses on Saturday night.
FAILLE SETS NEW ASSIST STREAK IN WIN:Eric Faille’s assist on Austin Block’s game-winning goal in the first period gave him seven consecutive games with at least one assist, setting a new team record; Faille has recorded nine assists over that span. Several other players had reached assist streaks of six games, including current Solar Bears forwards Patrick Watling and Denver Manderson.
MANDERSON CHIPS IN DURING RETURN:After last skating in Orlando’s 9-6 win at Alaska on Jan. 14 in which he put up three assists, Denver Manderson made his return to the lineup and picked up an assist on Patrick Watling’s first period goal. Despite missing 19 games
MILLER BACK:Having Brenden Miller back from AHL Toronto gives the Solar Bears another blueliner who has been used heavily on the man advantage – Miller is tied for second on the team in power-play assists with eight, and has also chipped in with three goals when playing up a man.
