TONIGHT:The Orlando Solar Bears take on the Utah Grizzlies in a rare inter-conference meeting. The Solar Bears previously hosted the Grizzlies during the 2013-14 season; Orlando went 2-0-1-0 against Utah during a three-game set in January of that season. The Grizzlies are coming off of a 4-3 win against the Florida Everblades on Wednesday night at Germain Arena.
BEREHOWSKY BACK BEHIND THE BENCH:As announced earlier today, Solar Bears Head Coach Drake Berehowsky will make his return behind the bench after taking a temporary leave of absence following a medical emergency on Feb. 21. The Solar Bears went 3-2-0-0 while Assistant Coach John Snowden manned the bench for Orlando.
BUZZEO BRINGS MORE OFFENSE:The Solar Bears were active leading up to Thursday’s trade deadline, as they traded for Justin Buzzeo from the Atlanta Gladiators. Buzzeo had already piled up 56 points (17g-39a) with Atlanta prior to the move.
FAILLE SET TO HIT ANOTHER CENTURY MARK:After already eclipsing 100 career points with the Solar Bears this season, Eric Faille is poised to play in his 100th game for the Solar Bears tonight as well. The second-year Solar Bears alternate captain is set to join Denver Manderson (116) and Brenden Miller (103) as the third player to do so this season for Orlando.
RETURN OF CAMERANESI BOLSTERS ATTACK:The Solar Bears are expected to have rookie forward Tony Cameranesi back in the lineup tonight for the first time since Dec. 31; the forward was recalled the following day to the AHL, where he had been with the Marlies until his reassignment back to Orlando earlier this week. In the 18 games prior to his AHL recall, Cameranesi appeared to have found his scoring touch, as he had put up 10 goals and seven assists for Orlando.
ORLANDO POWER PLAY SHIFTING INTO HIGH GEAR:Over its last four home games, the Solar Bears man advantage unit has been operating at peak performance, as the team recorded two power-play goals in back-to-back games last Thursday and Saturday, and has gone 6-for-18 (33.33%) over its last four matches. This bodes well against a Grizzlies squad that has found itself shorthanded 256 times this season, third-most out of any ECHL team.
