BEAR TRACKS:
Bears Off to Best Season at the Quarter PoleFollowing Friday night’s 5-2 victory over Florida, the Solar Bears found themselves off to the best start through the first 18 games of the season, boasting a record of 11-5-2-0, good for 24 points in the standings, and surpassing the previous quarter pole mark set in the 2013-14 campaign (11-6-0-1).
Liambas Makes NHL DebutOne week after being recalled from the American Hockey League, former Solar Bears forward Mike Liambas made his NHL debut on Saturday afternoon in the Predators’ 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils. Liambas became the first Solar Bears player to be developed on an ECHL contract and subsequently play in the NHL. Liambas played 32 games with Orlando in the 2012-13 Out of Hibernation season, in which he posted nine points and 151 penalty minutes.
Perry Tallies First Road GoalsPrior to Saturday night’s road game in Estero, all of Joe Perry’s goal scoring output had come on home ice. The forward found the back of the net twice to bring his season goal total to 12 in 19 games, and is currently on pace for a 45-goal season, which would surpass the franchise mark for goals in a single season, set by Mickey Lang (27 in 37 games) during the 2013-14 season.
