Marks second collegiate hockey game at Amway Center
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the University of Central Florida Knights hockey team will face the University of Florida Gators on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center following Orlando’s 1:30 p.m. game against the Allen Americans.
“We are excited to see UCF and UF face off in a matchup of two of the largest universities in the state. The Knights and Gators fan bases will bring a lot of energy into the building,” Solar Bears Chairman & CEO Joe Haleski said. “The Solar Bears organization remains committed to partnering with the UCF hockey team in the future to help grow the sport of hockey in Central Florida.”
Both UCF and Florida compete in Division III of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, the governing body of collegiate club-level ice hockey. The Knights currently compete as an independent team in Division III, consistently ranking among the nation’s top squads with nine consecutive appearances in the national tournament and two third-place finishes under head coach Sean Weaver. The ACHA is comprised of approximately 400 teams nationwide. In recent years, former ACHA programs have been elevated to NCAA Division I status, such as Penn State University and Arizona State University.
“On behalf of my team and the University of Central Florida for inviting the Knights to skate on the Amway Center ice once again,” UCF head coach Sean Weaver said. “This is a great opportunity for players of both teams to showcase their talent in front of a larger crowd in an NHL-caliber arena.”
Admission for the UCF vs. Florida game requires the purchase of a ticket to the game featuring the Solar Bears against the Americans. Puck drop for the Knights vs. Gators game will take place at approximately 4:30 p.m.
