Orlando scored four first period goals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Orlando Solar Bears (16-7-2-0) raced out of the gate with four first period goals on their way to doubling up the Kalamazoo Wings (9-15-0-2) in a 6-3 win on Friday night at Wings Event Center.

Tony Cameranesi opened the scoring in the first period when he raced down the left wing and drove wide of the net before cutting towards the crease, where he slipped the puck past Nic Riopel at 1:52.

Denver Manderson made it 2-0 at 6:27 when he received a pass in the slot from Brett Findlay and wristed it past Riopel.

Eric Faille then chased down a loose puck in the right corner during a penalty kill and marched towards the net before roofing it at the edge of the crease over a sprawled Riopel at 14:09.

Cameranesi netted a late power-play goal for Orlando in the dying moments of the frame when Taylor Doherty fed the forward at the left half-wall, and Cameranesi made his way from the goal line to the net before elevating the puck over Riopel at 19:54.

The Wings came out flying in the second period, as Peter Schneider, Scott Henegar and Lane Scheidl scored at 2:16, 2:52 and 5:19 respectively to pull the hosts back to within one.

Within seconds after Scheidl’s marker, Joe Perry gave the Solar Bears some breathing room when Findlay connected on a pass with Orlando’s leading goal scorer, and Perry snapped it past Riopel for his 15th goal of the season.

Faille capped the scoring with his second of the game in the third period when Findlay lobbed a pass into the neutral zone and Faille broke in on Riopel before tucking the puck through the legs of the goaltender at 9:42.

Kasimir Kaskisuo earned his fifth consecutive win for Orlando with a season-high 41 saves on 44 shots against; Riopel took the loss with 18 stops on 24 shots against.
