Thursday, Nov. 17 – Orlando 7, Greenville 4Orlando hosted its first-ever School Day Game, presented by Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, as the Solar Bears gained a 3-1 lead after the first period over the Swamp Rabbits. After Greenville pulled ahead by a 4-3 score in the third period, Johnny McInnis tied the score and Ben Danford netted his first of the season on a 2-on-1 that ultimately stood up as the game-winning tally, as Orlando cruised to a 7-4 victory in Drake Berehowsky’s first game back behind the bench since the 2012-13 season.
BEAR TRACKS:Brace Dealt to KalamazooForward Adam Brace has been traded to the Kalamazoo Wings in exchange for future considerations. Brace, 28, had scored four points (1g-3a) and added four penalty minutes in seven games with Orlando this season.
More ShotsBuoyed by another season-high performance with 53 shots on goal on Thursday, Orlando has reclaimed the top spot in the ECHL in shots on goal, averaging 37.42 shots per game. Eric Faille lead the way with 11 shots on goal in the contest against the Swamp Rabbits, tying Eric Baier’s club record originally set on Nov. 8, 2015 vs. Florida. Faille’s performance was also the second time this season that a Solar Bears player put up double-digit shot totals in a single game, as Ethan Werek managed 10 shots against Atlanta on Oct. 28.
Denver Manderson SurgingAfter being held off the scoresheet in Orlando’s first three games, Denver Manderson has come alive for the Solar Bears and has been a key cog in the team’s success. The forward has put up at least a point in eight of Orlando’s last nine games, and is riding a six-game point streak (3g-6a).
Familiar FacesSolar Bears fans will recognize at least one name in the Missouri lineup when the Solar Bears take on the Mavericks this week, as defenseman Matt Finn suited up in eight games for Orlando during the 2014-15 campaign while assigned by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Finn’s time in the Toronto development tree came to an end after he was packaged to the New York Islanders in the Michael Grabner trade. Mavericks defenseman Bryce Aneloski also played 117 games with Orlando from 2013-15, but was loaned to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors on Nov. 9.
Solar Bears fans might also recognize the name Reggie Traccitto when Orlando hosts Brampton later this week, as the defenseman was part of Orlando’s roster to open the 2015-16 season before being dealt to the Beast on Oct. 23.
