Manderson continues point streak with first period goal

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears (5-5-1-0) raced out to an early first period lead but ultimately fell to the South Carolina Stingrays (5-5-1-0) by a 3-2 score on Sunday afternoon at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center.

Orlando gained an early lead just 1:21 into the opening frame when Cason Hohmann flipped a pass to Denver Manderson at the right circle, and Manderson wired a wrist shot past the glove of Parker Milner. The goal extended his point streak to five games (2g-4a).

Late in the second period, South Carolina’s Colton Saucerman delivered a big hit on Hohmann at center ice while the Solar Bears were on a penalty kill. Ty Stanton immediately came to the aid of his teammate, but was subsequently sent to the box, putting Orlando in a 5-on-3 situation. Rob Flick capitalized on the power play for the Stingrays, netting a goal at 18:42.

Marcus Perrier gave South Carolina its first lead of the night with a shot that beat Kasimir Kaskisuo low to the blocker side at 3:39 of the third. Alex Gacek extended South Carolina’s lead to two goals at 10:02 when Patrick Gaul sent a pass into the slot for Gacek to knock home.

Eric Baier pulled Orlando back to within one goal at 19:29 with a wrist shot from above the right circle, but the Solar Bears could not complete the comeback.

Kaskisuo took the loss with 25 saves on 28 shots; Milner recorded the win with 24 stops on 26 shots.
