Orlando came away with the 4-2 victory in the first meeting of the season on Thursday.
WATLING HAS KILLER INSTINCT AGAINST BEAST:Dating back to last season’s three-game set against the Beast in Brampton, Patrick Watling now has six points (3g-3a) in three career games against the Beast. The forward has also recorded at least a point in all but four games so far this season for the Solar Bears.
MASSA MAKING HISTORY:Ryan Massa passed John Curry on Thursday for second all-time in franchise history in career appearances (46), and will tie Garret Sparks for the top mark in his next game. The goalie’s next victory will also tie Sparks’ record for most career wins in team history (26). Thursday’s game also gave him sole possession for most minutes played in team history at 2,579, passing Sparks’ previous record of 2,558.
THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT:Mason Marchment’s goal on Thursday gave the Solar Bears five rookies who have scored at least a goal this season, joining Nikolas Brouillard, Tony Cameranesi, Ben Danford and Jon Jutzi.
BEHAVED BEARS:Orlando is second in the Eastern Conference with the fewest penalty minutes per game, behind only Elmira. The Solar Bears have largely stayed out of the box thanks to an average of 9.93 penalty minutes per game and have only incurred one major penalty the whole season.
