Orlando adds experienced forward; Sylvestre dealt to Elmira Jackals
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the club has agreed to terms with veteran forward Ethan Werek on a Standard Player’s Contract. The team has also traded forward Sebastien Sylvestre to the Elmira Jackals in exchange for the rights to for forward Taylor Stefishen.
Werek, 25, joins the Solar Bears after splitting the 2015-16 season with the American Hockey League’s Charlotte Checkers and Florida Everblades, recording 42 points (21g-21a) and 40 penalty minutes in 65 combined games. In 300 career professional games with Florida, Charlotte, the Providence Bruins and Portland Pirates, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward has accumulated 118 points (54g-64a) and 198 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, the native of Markham, Ontario played major junior hockey with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League, logging 180 points (86g-84a) and 202 penalty minutes in 170 games. While in Kingston, Werek was teammates with Solar Bears defenseman Taylor Doherty.
Werek was a second round draft choice (#47 overall) of the New York Rangers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Stefishen, 26, is currently playing in France’s Ligue Magnus with Ducs de Dijon, where he has recorded 11 points (6g-5a) and six penalty minutes in 14 games. The native of North Vancouver, British Columbia was a fifth round selection (#136 overall) of the Nashville Predators in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Sylvestre, 23, had yet to play in a game with Orlando this season after signing with the Solar Bears earlier this summer.
