New facility will host Solar Bears practices, youth hockey and community activities
ORLANDO, Fla. - This summer the Solar Bears Family will announce the ground breaking of a 125,000 square foot hockey and training facility in Winter Garden, FL, that will be called the Orlando Hockey Center. The multi-purpose community center will include two sheets of ice and will be developed on 16 acres of land on East Crown Point Road off of the Plant Street exit from State Route 429, which is only a 15 minute drive from downtown Orlando. The team will continue to play in the Amway Center and will move its practices, locker room facilities, and offices to the new location.
The logo for the Orlando Hockey Center was designed by Joe Bosack & Co., the same firm that designed the Orlando Solar Bears logos. The seven points of the snowflake are made up of hockey stick blades and represent the maximum number of games that can be played in the Stanley Cup Final (since 1939). The nine points in the sun mirror the number in the Solar Bears logo, as does the hockey stick pointing up in celebration. The logo features many of the same colors as the Orlando Solar Bears.
Updates on the project will be available in the near future at www.OrlandoHockeyCenter.com.
