On Monday, Oct. 5, Orlando Solar Bears forward Trevor Olson posted on social media that he was retiring from professional hockey. In addition, Olson penned the following statement, which we have published here:
Thank you.
Thanks to the coaches, Coach Berehowsky especially, for believing in me and giving me a chance to play the game I love at the professional level. I had my struggles, but your trust in me, allowed me to play free and without fear. I made mistakes, and you taught me to have a short mind, and to continue playing with confidence and swagger. You gave me the chance to succeed, and I gave you my best effort every single night.
To ownership and to team president Chris Heller, thank you for treating your players with respect both on and off the ice. This is an incredible organization that pushes you to be successful both on the ice and as a human being. I grew up a lot in your organization and learned many lessons that will contribute to my success in my future career.
To my teammates, thank you for trusting me as a player and as a leader. I’m thankful for each individual relationship I’ve made over the past two years.
The amount of fun I had in that locker room is unmatched - a bunch of great guys who want to win! I wish you all nothing but the absolute best.
And finally, to the fans!
