ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the team has acquired forward Matt Schmalz from the Wichita Thunder in exchange for forward Stefan Fournier, along with future considerations. Additionally, the Solar Bears have sent back the future considerations originally acquired from Wichita in the Nov. 5 trade for defenseman Zach Todd.

Schmalz, 22, recorded five points (2g-3a) and five penalty minutes in 11 games with Wichita this season.

In 73 career professional games with the Thunder, Manchester Monarchs and Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League, the 6-foot-6, 217-pound forward has 47 points (26g-21a) and 47 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, the Dunnville, Ontario played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Kitchener Rangers, Sudbury Wolves and Owen Sound Attack, logging 119 points (56g-63a) and 245 penalty minutes in 308 career games.

Schmalz was a fifth-round selection (#134 overall) of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Fournier, 26, posted two points (1g-1a) and 45 penalty minutes in nine games with Orlando. He originally signed with the Solar Bears on Sept. 27.
