Brodzinski named AMI Graphics/ECHL Plus Performer for October

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that defenseman Michael Brodzinski has been named the AMI Graphics/ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for October after leading the league with a plus-minus rating of +10.

Brodzinski posted an even or better rating in six of his seven games during the month, and was a +3 in each of the final three games in October – Oct. 20 at Atlanta, Oct. 26 vs. Florida and Oct. 27 at Florida. He is the first Solar Bears player to receive monthly ECHL Plus Performer honors since defenseman Eric Baier earned the distinction in October of 2015 (+7 in six games).

The 23-year-old leads Orlando’s defensive corps and is third in overall team scoring with five points (3g-2a) and two penalty minutes in seven games. Brodzinksi’s three goals are also tied for the league lead among defensemen.

Under contract with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, Brodzinski was reassigned to the Solar Bears from the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda on Oct. 2. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound blueliner has recorded 15 points (6g-9a) and 16 penalty minutes in 30 career ECHL games with the Solar Bears and Allen Americans, and has added 10 points (2g-8a) and 46 penalty minutes in 60 career AHL games with San Jose.

Prior to turning pro, the native of Ham Lake, Minnesota played three seasons for the University of Minnesota, where he tallied 48 points (18g-30a) and 62 penalty minutes in 99 career games for the Golden Gophers program. Brodzinski was a fifth-round pick (#141 overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

In recognition of his accomplishment, AMI Graphics will present Brodzinksi with a personalized Plus Performer of the Month Banner during an on-ice ceremony at an upcoming Solar Bears home game.
