ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with rookie forward Brent Pedersen for the 2018-19 season.
Pedersen, 23, begins his professional career after skating for Laurentian University during the 2017-18 season. In 28 games, Pedersen recorded 26 points (9g-17a) and 16 penalty minutes.
“Brent is a responsible two-way forward who plays a very disciplined game,” Solar Bears head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky said. “We love his work ethic and believe he’ll be someone who can contribute offensively for us.”
In three seasons with the Voyageurs program, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound forward accumulated 59 points (27g-32a) and 26 penalty minutes in 76 games. During his time with Laurentian, Pedersen was teammates with fellow rookie forward Dylan Fitze, who also agreed to terms with Orlando earlier this summer.
“I’m extremely excited and honored to begin my professional career with the Solar Bears,” Pedersen said. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about the organization, coaching staff and the fans. I can’t wait to get started.”
Prior to turning pro, the native of Arthur, Ontario played major junior hockey for the Kitchener Rangers and Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, where he accrued totals of 112 points (58g-54a) and 171 penalty minutes in 268 games. Pedersen also captured an OHL title and a Memorial Cup championship with Oshawa during the 2014-15 season.
Pedersen was a fifth-round selection (#126 overall) of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
