ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with rookie forward Jared Fiegl for the 2018-19 season.
Fiegl (FEE-guhl), 22, will begin his first professional season with Orlando after completing his senior season of college hockey during the 2017-18 campaign with Cornell University. The forward made a move to the wing after playing much of his collegiate career at center, and enjoyed his best season offensively, posting eight points (4g-4a) and 12 penalty minutes in 28 games, while also serving as an alternate captain.
“Jared is coming off a career season, and we feel he has room for growth in his development,” Solar Bears head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky said. “He’s an extremely competitive and versatile player who can play at center or on the wing.”
In 119 career games for the Big Red, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound forward recorded totals of 17 points (8g-9a) and 101 penalty minutes. During his time at Cornell, Fiegl was a two-time recipient of the team’s Ironman award (demonstrating will and determination), and was also presented with the Cornell Hockey Association award (given to the player whose contributions come in the form of energy, heart and hustle) in his senior season.
“It’s a dream come true to have signed with the Solar Bears,” Fiegl said. “It’s a first-class organization with great coaching and incredible fans. I’m excited for the opportunity this season.”
The Parker, Colorado native has also represented the United States on the international stage, capturing the gold medal for Team USA at the 2014 IIHF World U18 Championships in Finland.
Fiegl was a seventh-round selection (#191 overall) of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
