Solar Bears add former New York Rangers netminder
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that goaltender Mackenzie Skapski has been added to the team’s roster.
Skapski (SKAP-skee), 23, joins Orlando after playing the last three seasons within the development system of the New York Rangers, the team that selected him with its sixth-round pick (#170 overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, Skapski spent most of the campaign with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, appearing in 33 games while posting a 18-11-0 record with a 3.38 goals-against average, a .904 save percentage and one shutout. He also took the ice in 13 games with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, logging a 2-8-0 record with a 4.73 goals-against average and .856 save percentage.
Skapski made his NHL debut with the Rangers on Feb. 20, 2015 against the Buffalo Sabres, making 24 saves en route to his first career win; he followed that performance up with a 20-save effort over Buffalo on March 14, 2015 for his first NHL shutout. Over the course of 117 professional games, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound puck-stopper owns a 46-49-9 record with a 3.17 goals-against average, a .901 save percentage and 6 shutouts.
Prior to turning pro, the Abbotsford, British Columbia native played four seasons with the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League, where he appeared in 141 games and logged a 74-52-7 record with a 2.81 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage and eight shutouts.
