Orlando receives forward from Toronto Marlies
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that forward Josh Winquist has been assigned to Orlando by the Toronto Marlies, Orlando’s American Hockey League affiliate.
Winquist, 24, joins Orlando with 135 games of AHL experience under his belt with Bridgeport, Bakersfield and Oklahoma City, totaling 81 points (31g-50a) and 72 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound forward also skated in 18 games with the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors in 2014-15, and put up 23 points (5g-18a) and 11 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, the St. Albert, Alberta native played his entire major junior career with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. In 301 games with Everett, Winquist piled up 216 points (101g-115a) and 185 penalty minutes.
Orlando opens the 2017-18 season on the road against the Jacksonville Icemen on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Arena. The Solar Bears return to the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center to open their home schedule on Saturday, Oct. 28 vs. the Atlanta Gladiators at 7 p.m.
