TODAY: The Solar Bears (2-2-0-0) look to bounce back with a two-point effort against the Atlanta Gladiators (2-4-0-0) after falling by a 5-4 score on Saturday night.
CRANE OFF TO SIZZLING START: Chris Crane’s second consecutive two-point outing gives him a clear edge in the team points lead, with six points (3g-3a) through four games. The skilled forward is picking up where he left off in the 2017 postseason, when he finished second in team scoring and led the Solar Bears in assists.
WINQUIST ADDING TO TOTALS: After securing the overtime-winner for Orlando last Sunday, Josh Winquist added a power-play goal in the second period of last night’s game against Atlanta, providing the Solar Bears with the team’s first goal of the season on the man advantage.
KING COMING OFF FIRST PRO POINTS: After signing with Orlando near the end of the 2016-17 season, defenseman Jeff King suited up in a small handful of regular season and playoff contests, but did not register a point. After earning an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies over the summer, the rookie was assigned to Orlando to continue his development, and the two-way blueliner earned his first pro points in Saturday’s game against Atlanta, including his first career goal.
STREAKS:
- Chris Crane – 4-game points streak (3g-3a)
- Zach Stepan – 2 game assist streak (4a)
- Nolan Valleau – 2-game assist streak (3a)
- Josh Winquist – 2 game goal streak (2g)
MILESTONE TRACKER:
- Joe Perry – needs 1 goal for sole possession of third place in franchise history (tied with Jacob Cepis and Brady Vail with 35)
- Josh Winquist – needs 2 goals for 50 career professional goals
AFFILIATE NOTES: Former Solar Bears forward Mason Marchment scored his fourth of the season yesterday, but the Toronto Marlies (6-3-0-0) fell to the Laval Rocket in the first-ever meeting between the two teams; the Marlies square off against Laval once again on Wednesday. The Toronto Maple Leafs (7-4-0-0) were doubled up by the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night by a 4-2 score, and visit the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
NEXT GAME: The Solar Bears are back in action at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center as they face their in-state rivals, the Florida Everblades, on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Single-game tickets for the 2017-18 season are now on sale at the Amway Center box office and ticketmaster.com.
