Veteran forward Tristan King joins Solar Bears

Playmaker won 2016 Kelly Cup with Allen Americans

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with veteran forward Tristan King for the 2017-18 season.

“Tristan is a highly-skilled player who will be an experienced presence in our locker room,” Solar Bears head coach Drake Berehowsky said. “He’s won a championship before in this league and knows what it takes.”

King, 26, enters his eighth season of professional hockey after recording 37 points (15g-22a) and 12 penalty minutes in 55 games split between the Allen Americans, Indy Fuel and Greenville Swamp Rabbits during the 2016-17 season.

King helped Allen capture the 2016 Kelly Cup, and was teammates with current Solar Bears forward Chris Crane. In 320 career ECHL games with Idaho, Greenville, Ontario, San Francisco, Fort Wayne, Evansville, Allen and Indy, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward has accumulated 225 points (90g-135a) and 167 penalty minutes. King also saw time in the American Hockey League during the 2010-11 campaign with the Texas Stars, and recorded four points (2g-2a) and six penalty minutes in 11 games.

“I’m excited for this chance to be a part of the Solar Bears organization this coming season,” King said. “I’m looking forward to moving to Orlando and working towards bringing this city a championship.”

Prior to turning pro, the native of Elk River, Minn. played four seasons of major junior hockey split between the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winter Hawks and Medicine Hat Tigers. King racked up 140 points (50g-90a) and 163 penalty minutes in 250 WHL games.

The Orlando Solar Bears are the proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Toronto Marlies, and play all of their home games at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center, the 2012 Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year.
