Rookie forward led Big Green in scoring last season
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have agreed to terms with rookie forward Troy Crema for the 2017-18 season.
“Troy took a big step forward in his development in his final year of college hockey, and we expect him to make strides in his first full pro season with the Solar Bears,” head coach Drake Berehowsky said. “He possesses great hands and knows how to find the back of the net.”
Crema (KREM-uh), 22, will begin his first full professional season after completing his collegiate career with Dartmouth College in 2016-17, in which he led the team in scoring with a career-high 29 points (17g-12a) and 32 penalty minutes in 31 games. Five of Crema’s goals were game-winners, which also were tops among Big Green skaters. For his efforts, Crema was named All-Ivy League First Team, and was a nominee for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the top college hockey player in the nation.
Upon Dartmouth’s elimination in the ECAC tournament, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Crema also skated in two American Hockey League games on an amateur tryout with the Rochester Americans, recording two penalty minutes.
“I’m very excited to sign with the Solar Bears and to work with the coaching staff in my first full season of pro hockey,” Crema said. “This is an opportunity for me to improve as a player and a person, and I’m looking forward to hitting the ice with Orlando in the fall.”
In 91 career NCAA games with Dartmouth, the Toronto, Ontario native collected 59 points (27g-32a) and 54 penalty minutes.
