ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the club has acquired the rights to defenseman Adam Phillips from the Indy Fuel. The deal completes an earlier transaction with Indy on December 30, 2016, in which Orlando sent forward Brock Montgomery to the Fuel in exchange for future considerations.
Phillips, 26, split his third season of professional hockey with Indy and the Norfolk Admirals, logging 19 points (3g-16a) and 22 penalty minutes in 49 total games.
The 6-foot-6, 217-pound rearguard has skated in 168 career ECHL games with Indy, Norfolk, Kalamazoo and Stockton, recording 67 points (21g-46a) and 68 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, the native of Farmington Hills, Mich. played college hockey for the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he skated in 124 games for the Minutemen and produced 50 points (23g-27a) and 140 penalty minutes. Phillips also played junior hockey with the United States Hockey League’s Indiana Ice, accumulating 12 points (1g-11a) and 16 penalty minutes in 47 games.
The ECHL has announced that teams must submit their Season-Ending Roster by 3 p.m. ET on June 15. Season-Ending Rosters may include up to 20 players and cannot include any players who did not sign an ECHL contract in 2016-17.
The Orlando Solar Bears are the proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Toronto Marlies, and play all of their home games at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center, the 2012 Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year.
