Two Solar Bears players invited to Toronto Maple Leafs training camp

Orlando's NHL affiliate opened training camp today in Etobicoke, Ontario

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Toronto Marlies, are pleased to announce that veteran defenseman Taylor Doherty and goaltender Ryan Massa have been invited to attend Toronto Maple Leafs training camp, beginning today at the MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Doherty, 25, agreed to terms with the Solar Bears on July 28, and is preparing to enter his first season with Orlando after being acquired from the Rapid City Rush on March 9. In 302 professional games, the former second round draft choice of the San Jose Sharks (2009, 57th overall) has 65 points (15g-40a) and 399 penalty minutes.

Massa, 26, is entering his second season with Orlando after he appeared in 37 games for the Solar Bears in the 2015-16 campaign, going 19-13-2 with a 2.91 goals-against average and .915 save percentage along with two shutouts.

Additionally, five other players have been invited to attend Maple Leafs camp who spent parts of the 2015-16 season with the Solar Bears.

Forwards:

  • Eric Faille (27) - 56 games played - 60 points (24g-36a) and 10 penalty minutes
  • Brett Findlay (23) - 22 games played - 21 points (10g-11a) and 38 penalty minutes
  • T.J. Foster (24) - 63 games played - 54 points (25g-29a) and 17 penalty minutes

Defensemen:

  • Brenden Miller (22) - 57 games played - 21 points (5g-16a) and 56 penalty minutes

Goaltenders:

  • Garret Sparks (23) - 1 game played - 1-0-0 record, 1.00 goals-against average and .962 save percentage
