Third-year pro spent last season with Missouri Mavericks
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Toronto Marlies, have announced that the club has agreed to terms with forward Sebastien Sylvestre for the 2016-17 season.
“Sebastien is a highly skilled forward whose best hockey is still in front of him,” Solar Bears head coach Anthony Noreen said. “He is smart, has very good hands and is committed to playing both ends of the rink.”
Sylvestre (sihl-VEHST), 22, played last season as a member of the Brabham Cup-winning Missouri Mavericks while under contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders. Sylvestre posted totals of 38 points (19g-19a) and 72 penalty minutes in 67 games with the Mavericks, where he was also teammates with current Solar Bears defenseman Trevor Ludwig.
In his rookie season of 2014-15, the 6-foot-1, 191-pound winger suited up for the Bakersfield Condors, and led the team in scoring with 47 points (23g-24a) and 52 penalty minutes in 69 games.
“I’m really excited to come to an Orlando, as it’s an organization with a great coaching staff and an amazing fanbase,” Sylvestre said. “I’m coming with the objective of learning all I can every day and to do whatever I can to make this team successful and make a push for the Kelly Cup!”
Prior to turning pro, the Boucherville, Quebec native played major junior hockey with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, accumulating 148 points (61g-87a) and 160 penalty minutes in 165 games.
