January 16, 2016 INDIANAPOLIS - The Orlando Solar Bears (17-15-2-3), proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, were led by Ryan Massa's 38-save performance to earn their seventh win in the last nine games en route to 2-0 win over the Indy Fuel (17-20-2-0) in front of a crowd of 5,892 on Saturday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Â The first period was not short on physicality as Zach Bell dropped the gloves with Sam Jardine at 4:26, and Mark Louis scrapped with Patrick Koudys at 8:25. Â T.J. Foster opened the scoring for the Solar Bears when he broke in on Mac Carruth and squeezed a shot through the netminder's pads at 12:42. Â The second frame was a tightly-contested stanza with both Massa and Carruth trading big saves, but Orlando extended its lead to two goals Erik Bradford when fed a drop pass to Johnny McInnis at the left circle, and McInnis cut towards the slot and wristed a shot past Carruth at 19:22. Â Despite several penalties taken by the Solar Bears in the third period and the Fuel out-shooting Orlando by a 18-4 margin in the final frame, Massa shut the door on Indy to preserve the score and earn his second shutout of the season; Carruth took the loss with 22 saves on 24 shots against.
