ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, have announced that John Snowden has been named the team's assistant coach.

"I'm thrilled to have the chance to coach with John Snowden here in Orlando," said Solar Bears Head Coach Anthony Noreen. "His passion, character and experience will be a huge asset to the Solar Bears organization."

Snowden, 33, begins his first full season in a dedicated coaching role, after previously serving as a player-assistant coach with the Bloomington PrairieThunder of the Central Hockey League in 2010-11.

The native of Snohomish, Wash., completed an 11-year professional playing career in 2013-14 with the Allen Americans and St. Charles Chill of the CHL. In his career, Snowden appeared in 305 career ECHL games with the Texas Wildcatters, Greenville Grrrowl, Reading Royals and Idaho Steelheads, recording 210 points (106g-104a) and 288 penalty minutes.
