Defenseman brings size to Orlando lineup
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, announced today that they have agreed to terms with D Max Nicastro.
Nicastro (6-3, 225 lbs.) was drafted in the third round (#91 overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2008 NHL Draft. He began the 2014-15 season with HC Banska Bystrica in Slovakia, where he posted 10 points (1 goal, 9 assists) and 28 PIM in 26 games. Nicastro skated in 58 games for the Toledo Walleye last season, notching 16 assists to go along with 28 PIM in 58 games. The third-year pro began his professional career in 2012-13, scoring one goal and adding two assists in 25 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) while also picking up five points on two goals and three assists in nine games with the Walleye.
The Thousand Oaks, CA, native played three seasons (2009-12) for Boston University before joining the professional ranks, finishing his collegiate career with 33 points on 11 goals and 22 assists along with 117 PIM in 102 contests. He was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in the 2009-10 season after posting three goals and 12 assists in 37 games. Nicastro skated two seasons (2007-09) for the Chicago Steel in the USHL before joining Boston University and played in the USHL All-Star Game in 2008-09.
