Conn Smythe, Hart Trophy, Turner Cup, Kelly Cup on display
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, in conjunction with the ECHL, announced today that the Stanley Cup will appear during the 2015 CCM/ECHL All-Star Week presented by Visit Orlando, marking the 13th time in the last 15 years that the NHL championship trophy will be on display during the ECHL All-Star festivities.
The Stanley Cup will be making numerous appearances around Orlando including a stop at Florida Hospital for Children on Monday, January 19, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. in addition to a number of media outlets.
On Tuesday, January 20th, the Stanley Cup will be on display for any fans that have purchased a FanFest Ticket to have their picture taken with the revered trophy. Ticket holders will receive a separate pass required for admission into the Disney Atrium at the Amway Center from 5:00-10:00 p.m. during the ECHL FanFest presented by Walgreens.
As part of the Hockey Hall of Fame display, presented by Sutton Special Risk, the Conn Smythe Trophy, Hart Trophy, and Turner Cup will also appear during the All-Star festivities.
The Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded annually to the Most Valuable Player of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, has twice been awarded to ECHL alums with Boston's Tim Thomas receiving the trophy in 2011 and Los Angeles' Jonathan Quick in 2012.
The Hart Memorial Trophy is presented annually to the National Hockey League's Most Valuable Player. Wayne Gretzky won the award a record nine times during his career, including eight consecutive seasons from 1979-80 through 1986-87. Gordie Howe received the Hart Trophy six times during his career.
The Turner Cup was the trophy presented to the champion of the International Hockey League from the league's inception in 1945 through the 2000-01 season when the Orlando Solar Bears became the final champion of the league's history. The trophy was retired and moved to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
The CCM/ECHL All-Star Classic will be surrounded by a week-long schedule of events, starting with the Orlando Youth Hockey Association Martin Luther King Day Tournament at the RDV Sportsplex Ice Den. The tournament begins on Friday, January 16th, and runs through Monday, January 19th. More than 50 youth hockey teams from across the U.S. and Canada will travel to Central Florida for the Tournament.
