Matson selected as Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

Forward collected seven points in three games last week

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, announced today that F Taylor Matson has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week (Feb. 17-23) after scoring three goals and adding four assists for seven points along with a +6 rating in three games for the Solar Bears, helping the team extend its club-record winning streak to nine games.

Matson started the week with an assist as the Solar Bears defeated the Toledo Walleye 7-3 on Friday night and then followed it up with a two goal performance, including one shorthanded goal and a game-winner with 1:44 to play, as Orlando earned a 4-3 win over Toledo on Saturday. He then collected four points on a goal and three assists as he factored into all four Solar Bears goals in a 4-3 overtime win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday afternoon.

The former Vancouver Canucks (NHL) draft pick is currently fourth among rookies with a +17 rating and has amassed 30 points on 12 goals and 18 assists in 22 games with the Solar Bears this season. Matson has played in 30 games with Orlando's AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild, scoring three goals and adding two assists.

On behalf of Taylor Matson, a case of pucks will be donated to an Orlando youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 29,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
