ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, announced today that they have agreed to terms with F Trevor Gillies.
Gillies (6-3, 231 lbs.) has played 57 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders and Anaheim Ducks, earning 261 PIM, two goals, and one assist. A veteran of 380 games in the AHL, Gillies has collected 1,536 PIM along with eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points. He has appeared in 217 games at the ECHL level with Augusta, Peoria, Richmond, Greensboro, and Mississippi, compiling 1,048 PIM, one goal, and 17 assists. In his 13-year North American professional career the 34 year old forward has amassed 2,845 PIM. Gillies began this season with HIFK in Finland, collecting 54 PIM in three games, and played 24 games in 2012-13 and earning 95 PIM with Vityaz Podolsk.
Hailing from Cambridge, ON, Gillies played three seasons (1996-99) in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Oshawa Generals, Sarnia Sting, and North Bay Centennials. He finished his OHL career with 563 PIM, seven goals, and 15 assists.
