Solar Bears netminder earned back-to-back wins over the Nailers last week
ORLANDO, Fla. - The ECHL announced today that Orlando Solar Bears goaltender John Curry was named the ECHL Goalie of the Week for the week ending January 20, 2013.
Curry played in two games for the Solar Bears last week, collecting two straight victories over the visiting Wheeling Nailers. The Shorewood, Minnesota, native began the week on Thursday, January 17, stopping 36 of 38 shots in a 7-2 win. He won his second straight game for the Solar Bears on Saturday, January 19,backstopping the team to a 3-2 overtime win over the Nailers while turning aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced. Curry ended the week with a 2-0-0-0 record, 1.92 GAA, and .926 save percentage.
The 5'11", 185 lbs. goaltender has played 30 games for the Solar Bears this season, compiling a 2.71 GAA, .912 save percentage, and 16-10-2-0 record. Curry started 13 of Orlando's first 15 games, helping the Solar Bears to kick off the season with a 7-5-2-1 record. He is currently tied for second in wins (16), second in minutes played (1,681), and third in shootout save percentage (.875%, 28-for-32).
Curry joins LW Nick Petersen (ECHL Player of the Month in October) and Dan Gendur (ECHL Player of the Week for December 24-30) as Solar Bears who have won league awards this season.

The ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition is going on this week. Forward C.J. Severn is representing the Solar Bears in the Otterbox Fastest Skater event during the skills completion tonight and will play on the ECHL All-Star team as they showcase their skills against the Colorado Eagles tomorrow.

The Solar Bears play their next three games on the road, but return home on Wednesday, January 30, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Greenville Road Warriors. Orlando will face Greenville again during a 7:00 p.m. contest on Friday, February 1, and then will raise the 2001 Turner Cup Championship Banner on Saturday, February 2, at 7:00 p.m. against the Trenton Titans.
