Dan Gendur named ECHL Player of the Week

Solar Bears forward scored five times in two games last week

ORLANDO, Fla. - The ECHL announced today that Orlando Solar Bears Right Wing Dan Gendur has been selected as the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for December 24 through December 30. Gendur scored five goals in two games against the Florida Everblades last week.

Gendur started off the week by snapping a scoreless tie when he struck shorthanded 10:03 into the second period to help Orlando to a 2-1 win over the visiting Everblades. He followed that up with four goals on Friday, December 28, including one power play marker, as the Solar Bears defeated the Everblades for the third straight game by an 8-4 score. His four-goals set a new season high for Orlando for goals scored by one player in a single game.

The Vancouver, British Columbia, native was originally acquired from the Evansville IceMen on December 7, where he had four goals and six assists in 19 games, and made his Solar Bears debut the following night against the Fort Wayne Komets. He has since skated in 10 games with the Solar Bears, striking for six goals and adding three assists for nine points. In his ECHL career, Gendur has played 110 games with Orlando, Evansville, Johnstown, and Victoria, recording 69 points on 21 goals and 48 assists. The 2007 Vancouver Canucks draft pick has played in 20 games in the AHL, split between the Manitoba Moose and Milwaukee Admirals, picking up one goal and one assist.

"Gendur has a lot of talent, and has the ability to have a big impact when he plays a solid 200-foot game," said Head Coach Drake Berehowsky.

Gendur becomes the second Solar Bears player to take home a league award. LW Nick Petersen was awarded the ECHL Player of the Month for October after scoring six goals, including a hat trick on October 25, and eight assists for 14 points in seven games.

The Orlando Solar Bears, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and AHL's Houston Aeros, play all of their home games at the 2012 Street and Smith's Sports Business JournalSports Facility of the Year, the Amway Center.
