Protected Lists Due

Consider this more of a housekeeping list for the league. Simply put, any player not on an AHL or NHL contract that skated for the Solar Bears in 2017-2018 under a standard player contract is eligible to be included on the list. There is no limit on the number of players.

Future Considerations Trade Deadline

Any trade during the season that occurred for “future considerations” gets completed by 3 p.m. on this day.

The Solar Bears completed the following transactions involving the rights to the following players:

  • Orlando acquires forward Mark Bennett from the Reading Royals to complete Dec. 28 transaction that saw defenseman Matias Cleland’s ECHL rights reassigned to Reading by the Toronto Marlies
  • Orlando acquires defenseman Rob Mann from the Utah Grizzlies to complete the Jan. 29 trade that sent forward Todd Skirving to Utah
  • Orlando acquires forward Stefan Fournier from the Brampton Beast to complete the Feb. 8 transaction that saw defenseman Jeff King’s ECHL rights reassigned to Brampton by the Toronto Marlies
  • Orlando acquires forward Tim Harrison from the Adirondack Thunder to complete the transaction from Oct. 25 in which Orlando sent the ECHL rights to forward Shane Conacher to Adirondack
  • Orlando sends Harrison’s rights to the South Carolina Stingrays to complete the future considerations portion of the March 8 trade that brought forward Robbie Baillargeon to Orlando

Season-Ending Rosters Due

Up to 20 players can be included on the Season-Ending Roster, reflecting the players whose rights the Solar Bears wish to keep. Only players who signed an ECHL contract during the 2017-18 season can be included as part of the Season-Ending Roster.

ECHL Begins Approving 2018-19 Player Contracts

With Colorado and Quad City exiting the league, along with a number of players available from the major junior, college and professional ranks, there are a number of players who the Solar Bears are now eligible to sign to an ECHL contract for the 2018-19 season. Any player not included on Orlando’s Season-Ending Roster is eligible to be signed by other teams. Teams are prohibited from announcing player signings until contracts have been approved by the ECHL.

Qualifying Offers Due

The Solar Bears are entitled to reserve rights to a maximum of eight players from the Season-Ending Roster by extending a qualifying offer no later than June 30. Of the eight qualified players, no more than four can be veterans. Players on open qualifying offers cannot be traded. Teams are not required to extend a qualifying offer to players who sign a contract prior to July 1. The Solar Bears retain full rights to these players and they are prohibited from signing with any other team in the ECHL (but are free to sign in other leagues). Any player not already signed with the Solar Bears, or did not receive a qualifying offer, becomes an unrestricted free agent.
