The Orlando Solar Bears will host their second-ever School Day Game on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Solar Bears will host their second-ever School Day Game on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at the ARS.com Rink at Amway Center.

All Central Florida K-12 schools are invited to spend the morning with Orlando’s professional hockey team in a field trip atmosphere, where students will enjoy a unique educational experience while enjoying the fast-paced action of live ice hockey. Students will receive hockey-related educational materials that are consistent with STEM standards and cover math, science, geography and more.

A complimentary lunch will be provided for all students in attendance.

“After the success of last season’s School Day Game, we are thrilled to continue our efforts to grow this exciting event for our Central Florida students,” Solar Bears president Chris Heller said. “The relationships we’ve established with several local school districts will enable us to introduce many local children to the sport of hockey for the very first time.”

Last season, the Solar Bears defeated the Swamp Rabbits on Nov. 17 by a 7-4 score in front of a crowd of over 5,000 – many of them were school children witnessing their first-ever hockey game. Many teachers and school administrators offered praise for the day’s game and programming.

“This was by far the best field trip we’ve been on,” Osteen Elementary fifth grade teacher Jen Scorza said. “From arrival to lunch and everything in between, [the first School Day Game] was seamless and the staff was on point and professional. We definitely want to make this a new fifth grade tradition.”

“We had so much fun! The kids were totally into the game and were cheering and dancing away – of course being on the JumboTron was a highlight for them too,” Longleaf Elementary third grade teacher Kristie Pederquist said. “The event itself was organized well. I felt very safe, and I would be interested in going on the trip again!”

Although the School Day Game is geared towards school groups, Solar Bears Season Ticket Members and the general public are still welcome and encouraged to attend and enjoy the day’s events. Season Ticket Members who are unable to attend the morning game will be able to exchange their ticket(s) for a future 2017-18 Solar Bears regular season home game.
