Sunday, November 18, right before the Thanksgiving
holiday.
Fans who attend the game this Sunday, October 28, are
encouraged to bring an unopened can or bag of pet food to the
Amway Center. Upon entering the building (Amway doors open at
2:00 p.m.), fans can donate pet food in the Disney Atrium
located at the Church Street entrance. Everyone who donates
will be entered to win a Ryan Blair autographed jersey, and the
winner will be announced during the second intermission of
Sunday's game. All pet food will be donated to the Community
Food & Outreach Center.
Andrae Bailey, Community Food & Outreach Center's Executive
Director, said, "Poverty is at a historic high point here in
Central Florida, and it effects the most vulnerable among us.
Many families facing an economic crisis struggle to feed
themselves; and in turn struggle to provide for the silent
members of their families, their pets. A struggling person
should not have to choose between them eating or their pets
eating. We are so thankful that the Solar Bears are helping us
give a hand up to the community this weekend."
"We know that our fans are proud to assist the Community Food
& Outreach Center. The CFOC's mission is to help those in
need by offering hunger relief, crisis care, education, and
employment training opportunities and
we are happy to play a small role in their efforts," said
Orlando Solar Bears Managing Partner Jason Siegel.
The Solar Bears will hold a canned food drive where fans
can donate nonperishable food items to the Community Food
& Outreach Center before their game on Sunday, November
18, against the Kalamazoo Wings (Vancouver Canucks).
About the Community Outreach Center:
Dedicated to helping those that are in need to fight hunger,
overcome personal crisis and prevent homelessness. We do this
by helping struggling families get their basic needs met,
connecting those in crisis with the resources and tools needed
to get back on their feet, and providing the training and
skills necessary to help our neighbors get employment
opportunities, achieve their dreams, and regain hope for their
lives.
We have dedicated ourselves to give the community a place they
can come to for help when they have nowhere else to turn. With
unemployment, hunger, homelessness and hopelessness all around
us, we need your help now more than ever. Hope begins with
you!
