Solar Bears Test their Mettle Against Intrastate Rivals

The Solar Bears regular season begins on Oct. 20th

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Solar Bears announced today that they will compete in preseason exhibition games against the Florida Everblades on Friday, October 5, and Saturday, October 6. Both games will be played at the Germain Arena, the home of the Everblades, in Estero, Florida.

The Solar Bears will battle with the Everblades on two consecutive nights, as they face-off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5, and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 6. These two games are exhibition contests, and as such the results of the games and player stats are independent of the regular season record and statistics.

“Preseason games give the team an opportunity to generate some chemistry going into the regular season,” said Head Coach Drake Berehowsky. “They are a valuable way for the players to get a feel for our systems in real game speed and action, which is difficult to simulate in practices and scrimmages.”

The Solar Bears begin the regular season with three straight games on the road against the Everblades. The Home Opener for the “Out of Hibernation” season starts at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20. The Solar Bears expect to announce a number of player signings, details for our OSB Training Camp dates, details regarding the formation of the OSB Alumni Association, two trophies that will be awarded annually to a current Bears player in honor and memory of both Dan Snyder and Rob Kenny, and a number of exciting promotional events over the next two to four weeks. The Orlando Solar Bears, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and AHL's Houston Aeros, are coming Out of Hibernation and will play 36 regular season home games at the 2012 Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal Sports Facility of the Year, the Amway Center, beginning October 20, 2012.
