South Division Semifinals • Game 6 • Solar Bears lead series 3-2
The Orlando Solar Bears will get their second attempt to close out the South Division Semifinals with a win against the Florida Everblades as the series shifts back to Germain Arena, where Orlando has already managed two victories in this series.
CRANE JOINS DOHERTY AND MANDERSON:
Chris Crane’s assist on Justin Buzzeo’s goal on Sunday tied him for the team points lead in the current postseason run along with Taylor Doherty and Denver Manderson at six apiece. Crane’s five assists also lead the team.
BUZZEO TACKS ON ANOTHER GOAL:
Justin Buzzeo’s third-period goal on Sunday gave him his third of the playoffs, tied for the team lead with Doherty and Manderson. Orlando is one of only two Eastern Conference playoff teams (the other being South Carolina, which advanced to the second round with a 4-2 series win over Greenville) to have three players with at least three goals.
JOYCE ADDED ON ATO:
The Solar Bears have bolstered their depth in goal with the signing of goaltender Kris Joyce to an amateur try-out agreement. Joyce, 21, is a 6-foot-4, 225-pound netminder who spent the past season with the University of Windsor Lancers of the Canadian U Sports system, going 6-10-0 in 20 appearances with a 2.88 goals-against average, a .908 save percentage and one shutout. Prior to joining the Lancers, Joyce played Junior A hockey for the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for two seasons, going 35-33-9 in 81 career games, with a 2.83 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage and one shutout. In the 2015-16 campaign, Joyce was named the league’s most valuable player.
